Queer كوير Weave
A weave dedicated to the SWANA Queer community – honoring the many identities and stories *woven* into our history despite the erasure and suppression we’ve endured both from within our own spaces + from Western pink-washing. The LGBTQ+ community is known as the ’Meem & 3ayn (م & ع) Community’ - named after the first letters of many identity terms used across queer Arabic-speaking circles. It features the term 'Queer' written out phonetically in Arabic (كوير / Kweer) enclosed by (عائلة ال (م)( ع loosely translating to 'Family of (Meem) + (3ayn)' atop an excerpt from the Shahnameh—the epic Persian poem completed in 1010 CE, often quoted in protest spaces.
